Our Essence

Our History

Huellas Latinas was born in Minnesota during a time of deep uncertainty, in the midst of the pandemic, when many people felt isolated, disconnected, and distant from natural spaces. What began as an initiative led by Luisana Méndez, created to walk together, share time outdoors, and reconnect with nature, grew organically and with purpose.

From the very beginning, Huellas Latinas evolved into a collectively built space of connection, where nature serves as a bridge to well-being, belonging, and mutual care. Since 2021, we have accompanied more than 3,434 individuals and families through outdoor experiences that promote well-being, leadership, and a sense of belonging.

Over the years, the organization has expanded its activities, programs, and partnerships, reaching families, youth, and adults seeking to reconnect with themselves, with others, and with the natural world. What started as an individual idea now walks forward as a living community, sustained by volunteers, shared leadership, and strong partnerships.

Today, nearly five years after its creation, Huellas Latinas is a solid and growing organization committed to creating inclusive, safe, and culturally relevant spaces where the Latino community can explore, learn, and feel a true sense of belonging in nature.

Our Mission

Connecting Latino communities to outdoor experience in nature that provide well-being and belonging.

Our Vision

Inspiring generations to feel at home outdoors.

Our Values

We live these values in every hike, in every conversation, and in the way we care for our community, both in and out of nature.
